Day 2: Monday..part 1

Hey guys.. our second day here in Branson, MO was full of activities!! Today we decided to get familiar with our surroundings here in Branson and the general Ozark area. We know we were starting off on the right foot because last night we did not as we got lost in the resort parking lot. We had a very nice small breakfast consisting of coffee And Jen had some cereal out on our lovely patio. Andrew had two strawberry and peanut butter m&ms.

We started off our day going north into Ozark, MO.

We were looking for the café, however ended up on a wrong road because VZ (Andy’s “second girlfriend”) lead us wrong down Highway F instead of Highway J. We did find a large Church of Christ and took a picture for my mom:

After getting the GPS (Andy’s “second girlfriend”-VZ) working correctly, we went to the lamberts throwed roll café.

For those who don’t know.. it was a very interactive experience. The “throwed roll” café gets it’s name as they literally throw rolls at you hot straight from the oven.

They also came by offering sides to your meal such as fried okra…

Potatoes, black-eye peas.. so forth. The meals were HUGE.

The drinks were massive.

“They come in pints??”

We were sitting near the Utah Flag at the restaurant, which is quite funny.

The food was great, the atmosphere, waiters, service.. excellent. I highly recommend the pulled pork sandwich.

After getting fat, we left heading east into Mansfield, MO. We got a pretty nice parking spot.

For those who don’t know, this is where Laura Ingalls settled down and wrote the little house on the prairie books along with her daughter Rose.

The land that they lived on was gorgeous. It was the type of land you could spend hours just sitting and writing and never be bored.

Their original home was a log cabin, which doesn’t exist any longer. Afterwards, they build a home, starting with just a couple rooms, which expanded throughout the years. The floor plan was amazing. Laura and her husband Alonzo were very short people, Laura being just 4’ 11’’ and Alonzo being 5’ 4’’. Let’s just say us tall people could touch the ceiling!!

Rose Wilder, their daughter, bought her parents the Rocky Ridge House just down the road.

It was the cutest little European inspired cottage. The thick wooden door and the ivy along the side of the stone were charming. Andy and I want to incorporate those same ideas into a home in the future.

At any rate, after Rose moved back east, Laura and her husband moved back to their previous home. They were homesick for the home they built up together.

Afterwards, we went to go visit the gravesite of Laura and her husband, also her daughter Rose. It was a humbling experience, especially for a newly married couple as we see the lives of two people and their daughter, and realize that through much hard work, they put together their home, their farm, and those wonderful books that taught so many girls the love of reading. It reminded us both to appreciate the fruits of our labor, and to mark own mark upon this world, just as they did.

part 2 will be downloaded tomorrow morning!! :)
